Attendees will learn how to market themselves effectively, create a professional website, develop promotional materials, and position their music for opportunities in clubs, festivals, and educational settings.

Eric is the leader of The Eric Byrd Trio, an internationally award winning, Contemporary Jazz, acoustic based group. He is also a master educator with a former student receiving a full scholarship to the prestigious Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, Maryland.

Join us for an inspiring and high-energy drum clinic led by Alphonso Young, Jr., the dynamic drummer of The Eric Byrd Trio. Known for his deep groove, masterful touch, and versatility across jazz and contemporary styles, Alphonso brings both artistry and insight to the drum set.

This clinic is designed for drummers of all levels who want to grow musically and technically. Alphonso will break down essential concepts including time, feel, independence, phrasing, and musicality—while demonstrating how to support and elevate an ensemble. Attendees will also gain valuable tips on practice strategies, professionalism, and developing their unique voice behind the kit. Alphonso is a retired middle school teacher and a current university professor. He can relate to students of all ages.

Jazz Appreciation Month Concert

Join us as we celebrate Jazz Appreciation Month with From New Orleans to Now — a live concert with The Eric Byrd Trio tracing the remarkable journey of America’s original art form.

The proceeds from this concert will go to the Frederick Jazz Society, a nonprofit whose mission is to advocate, educate, present, and promote jazz in Frederick County and beyond.

From the joyful syncopations of early New Orleans jazz and the fiery swing of the big band era to the soulful explorations of bebop, cool jazz, and the expressive freedom of modern improvisation, this performance honors the innovators who shaped the soundtrack of the 20th century and continue to inspire today’s musicians.

Featuring masterful performances by The Eric Byrd Trio and special guests, the concert will blend history and performance, weaving together stories of legends like Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, and John Coltrane with the vibrant sounds of live jazz in every style.
